2010-07-06 3rd Roll / Answer

Even on the third roll of the future, you cannot just play backgammon "on automatic" and you must look for the logic of every play.  Red has just played a 3-3 in a fairly unusual way, and suddenly we are faced with a board setup that we are not used to seeing day after day, and the right play requires some thinking and creativity.  Slotting the opponent's 5 point and your bar not only duplicates 3's, but if you do get hit in either place, you have opportunities in the remaining place and advances your game.
