2010-08-03 Crawford Play/Answer

At this score, it doesn't pay to be timid, and the right play is a very bold one...hit and slot the 5 point. 

Here is Matt Cohn-Geier's take on this play:

"This play is very clear to me. 


Just making the 5 has a bunch of problems.  You leave an ace shot and give him time to come around the board and if you hit you have to break one of your points.  Lifting isn't the right idea either since you don't care if you get gammoned and closing the 5 point would greatly increase your G chances.  You have 22 covers if you get missed (plus 4 for the ace and 3 for the bar) and if you get hit you're still alive."
