It seems natural to make the 2 point to win more gammons, and you do win more gammons that way, but you simply lose too many games by giving your opponent immediate jokers and by leaving a gap on your 3 point (and not getting that checker out of his inner board).  You trade off 9 percent more gammons for 9 percent more losses....not a good bet when a simple win puts you ahead 4-1 Crawford giving you 82% equity....so you only gain another 18 percent by winning a gammon.
