As you can see from the ExtremeGammon Rollout, coming from the bar to the 16 point and giving the shot is, by far, the best play.  I thought getting hit could be fatal so I played in to the 21 and played 7/2.  The message here is there is more to this game than one more roll, and no matter what happens throwing checkers away to the 1 or 2 point takes those checkers out of play for future use.
